Is it authentic?

The world of fine art is a secret place, and that can carry risk.

As related in the New York Times on August 6, 2012, once the authenticity of a work of art has been maligned by allegations/litigation, the piece’s value may suffer for a long period of time – even where a court may judge the piece to be genuine.  But then,  not mentioned in the article, there are also some  cases where litigation actually adds to the sex appeal of the piece’s back story.
